On the eve of the Emirates Melbourne Cup we've put your questions to top Australian broadcaster Shane Anderson.

Shane is the international racing commentator for Radio Sport National in Melbourne and has witnessed the build-up to another eagerly-awaited renwal of the Flemington showpiece.

How significant is the barrier draw for the Melbourne Cup?

Shane Anderson: Not as significant as it formerly was since Flemington's been remodelled which they did around 2005. Horses can now cover a bit of ground around the track because the camber of the course changed. You still have the best part of 900 metres from where they start to the turn out of the home straight and a horse can find a position. If you're caught wide it isn't as big a disadvantage as it is at other tracks in Australia.
